Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church for Aswell Laday, Sr. age 83, who died peacefully at home surrounded by family.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Fr. Lambert Lein will officiate the services.
Aswell Laday was born on September 20, 1932, in Ville Platte Louisiana to Ozean Leday and Angelina Guillory Leday. He met and was united in holy matrimony to Priscilla Mae Franklin on January 21, 1951 and subsequently made Lafayette their home. To this union eleven children was born.
Aswell enjoyed life, family members and many friends. He was a very friendly and helpful person. You could always call “Oz” to get a ride to your destination, for he loved to be in his car driving somewhere, anywhere. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Mourning his departure, yet cherishing his memories is his wife of 65 years, Priscilla Franklin Laday, three sons, Lawrence Laday, Aswell Laday, Jr. and Perry Laday, Sr., all of Lafayette, La. Seven daughters, Rita Castille, Martha Laday, Lucille George, Deborah Coleman, and Alice Foreman, all of Lafayette, La, Janice (Simon) Melancon of Scott, La. and Cathy (William) Bernard of Carencro, La, three sisters, Alberta Tezeno, Ella Cormier and Earline Leday, 35 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren , two great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by three infant children Abigail, Herbert and Lionel Laday, his parents Ozean and Angelina Guillory Leday, three sisters, Olita Taylor, Lily Mae Campbell and Shirlene Joubert, two brothers, Elton Leday and Uwell Leday, paternal grandparents, Chass and Marie Leday and maternal grandparents Jules and Camelia Guillory, mother in law and father in law, Henry and Outtie Dixon Franklin.
