Lafayette - Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Progressive Baptist Church for Tyrone Taylor Sr., 60, who passed away Friday, March 22, 2013 at Kindred Rehabilitation Hospital in Lafayette, LA with his loving wife by his side.

Pastor Lloyd Joiner, Jr. will conduct the funeral services.

Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.

Tyrone was a native of Jackson, MS and a resident of Lafayette, LA. He was born March 18, 1953 to the late Evangeline Williams and Alfred Taylor of Jackson, MS and was raised by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lovett, also of Jackson, MS. He was baptized at an early age and attended school in Jackson, MS. At the age of 17 he enlisted and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a 2nd Battalion 3rd Marine. He fought in the Vietnam War from 1972-74 and received the Vietnam Service Medal. Tyrone was an avid golfer and a die-hard Dallas Cowboy fan. He lived a portion of his life in Honolulu, HI and later moved to Lafayette where he met and married the love of his life, Thelma. He was a very affectionate person and never met a stranger. Tyrone will be greatly missed by all who knew him and whose lives he has touched.

He is survived by his loving wife of ten years, Thelma Taylor of Lafayette, LA; a son, Tyrone Taylor, Jr. (Melissa) of Guam; step-daughter and son-in-law who stuck by his side until the very end and whom he adored, Regan and John Comeaux of Elton, LA. He is also survived by four precious grandchildren, Tre and Asia Taylor of Guam, Trevor and Tamara Lemoine of Elton, LA; four brothers-in-law, Donald Henry (Laleitha) of Bonaire, GA, Ronald Henry of Elton, LA, Leroy (Yolanda) Henry of Jennings and Harold Joubert of Elton, LA; a special Godchild, Isaiah Joubert of Elton, LA; one sister, Bobbie Perkins of Lafayette; two sisters-in-law who were the loves of his life, Natalie Ammons of Gary, IN and Viola Ammons of Jackson, MS; a good brother, Wesley Walker of Las Vegas, NV; numerous nieces and nephews; all of his golfing buddies at Hebert Park and Vieux Chenes Golf Course. He will be greatly missed by his four-legged companions, Boustany, Princess and Wolf.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Evangeline Williams; a sister, Juanita Gibson; two brothers, John L. and Charles Ammons; his mother-in-law, Leola Henry; a sister, Alexia Joubert; brothers-in-law, Eddie and Clarence Henry.

The Taylor family would like to express a heartfelt “thank you” to all of the staff at Kindred Rehabilitation Hospital for the compassionate care that Tyrone received.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Progressive Baptist Church from 8 a.m. until time of service.
