October 10, 1950 - July 28, 2021
Lafayette: On October 10/11, 1950, a handsome baby boy, Joseph Helaire, Jr. “ baby” was born to Cecilia Charles, and Joseph Helaire, Sr. On July 28, 2021, Joseph was called home to be with the Lord.
Viewing will begin at 6:00 P.M to 9:00 PM at Kinchen Funeral home on August 6, 2021 and 8:00 AM - 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 7, 2021.
Homegoing services honoring the life of Joseph Helaire Jr. will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 11 A.M. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church- 1818 12th Street, Lafayette, LA. Father Augustine "Gus" Wall will officiate the services.
Joseph attended Paul Breaux High School. He was also a dedicated employee with the City of Lafayette for a few years before relocating to California. For his first few years in California, he worked as a maintenance technician for a local apartment complex. He then transitioned to a skilled laborer position for the City of San Francisco, where he later retired. After being away from home for seventeen years, he and his loving wife returned to Louisiana.
Joseph leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 39 years, Shirley Helaire; Seven children: Yolanda (Al) Thibeaux of Carencro, LA, Aceonne Sias of San Francisco, CA, Shantell (Huey) Jones of Katy, TX, Joseph (Lacey) Helaire III of Carencro, LA, Lumas Helaire (fiancé Kizzmekia Corbett) of Boston, MA, Brooklyn (Jason) Hibbert of Atlanta, GA, and McQuiston Helaire of Lafayette, LA. One-brother Ricky (Melinda) Charles Sr. of Opelousas, LA, two sisters; Dorothy (Perry) Breaux of Lafayette, LA and Barbara (Henry) Jenkins of Seattle, WA., fourteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He also leaves to cherish his memories a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, and friends who he loved dearly.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents Cecilia Charles and Joseph Helaire, Sr., two sisters Beatrice Isadore and Joyce August, two brothers Lumas and Claussie Helaire, and his mother-in-law Mildred Sias Chevalier.
