Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 11:00 am at Saint James Baptist Church for Donald Godfrey, 57, affectionately known as "Duck", who heard his name when the Almighty graciously whispered "assume your role as my angel" Monday, August 26, 2013 at 7:05 am at his residence.

Duck was born December 20, 1955 to Ezola Harris Godfrey and Brace B Godfrey, Sr of Ville Platte, Louisiana. He married Elaine Lewis Godfrey August 30, 1986. To this wonderful twenty-seven year union one son, Dexter J Lewis and one daughter, DaMeaka T Lewis were born. Donald enjoyed developing young males, athletically and academically and fulfilled this as a volunteer coach for Paul Breaux Middle School's football program. He attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana, where he became a very proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

Duck leaves to mourn and cherish his memory his wife of 27 years, Elaine M Godfrey; children Dana (John) Adams, Donald (Lolita) Godfrey, Jr, Dexter (Shalondra) Lewis and DaMeaka Lewis. Additionally, he leaves grandchildren, DaMarkus Adams, Darien Adams, Devin Adams, DaMarian Adams, Kayleb Lewis, Dylan Lewis and Zania Godfrey; sisters, Janet R Godfrey, Pricilla G Charles and Lisa (Christopher) Slaughter; sister-in-law, Cynthia T; brothers Curtis L Godfrey, David (Pat) Godfrey and Rev Paul (Marian) Godfrey.

He was preceded in death by parents, Brace B Godfrey, Sr and Ezola H Godfrey; brother, Brace B Godfrey, Jr and sister, Ophelia Godfrey. Arrangements by Syrie Funeral Home
