Woody Ray Davis was born on Saturday, July 30, 1977 to the union of Woody Peter Davis and Cynthia Robertson-Victor in New Iberia, LA. His parents chose to introduce Woody Ray to the love of God at an early age so they baptized him at Notre Dame Catholic Church as an infant. In early years, he attended Our Lady of Fatima School in Lafayette, LA. where he was educated and nurtured with specialized classes and met many outstanding friends including his best friend, Nathaniel Boyance. With Fatima’s inclusiveness, Woody Ray was able to make his first communion, sing in the choir and even become an altar server.

Even though life had its challenges for Woody Ray, he still persevered and overcame any obstacles and remained jolly and loveable. Woody Ray was so proud of being able to exercise his right to vote that he never missed an election and was even known to whip out his voter’s registration card to hush naysayers. Woody Ray Davis treasured holidays because they included everything that he loved… dancing, eating good food, praying, but most of all he loved being in the company of family and friends. He loved his brothers and relatives and was especially honored to have his niece and nephews and loving church family.

Woody Ray had a special connection with his maternal grandfather who nicknamed him Lieutenant and in turn Woody Ray called his grandfather Sly. Woody Ray was Sly’s shadow wherever Sly went Woody Ray wasn’t far behind. He enjoyed their time together working on Sly’s carpentry jobs, feeding he cows and horses, and especially the weekly errands. Woody Ray loved going to Teche Bank where all the employees knew him by name and Babes Snowball Stand where Sly made sure to get him whatever his heart desired. Sly always treated Woody Ray with the utmost respect and made sure he felt like the King and Lieutenant he was. Woody Ray Davis never met a stranger and was the New Orleans Saints number one fan.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lincoln and Pearl Andrus Davis and two uncles, Webster Robertson and Godfrey Robertson. Woody Ray Davis transitioned suddenly transitioned from his home in New Iberia, LA to eternal life on Saturday, July 25, 2020.

Woody Ray leaves to cherish his beautiful memory his mother, Cynthia Robertson-Victor (David); his father Woody Peter Davis (Terri) all of Cade, LA; his maternal grandparents, Web and Verna Wilson Robertson, of Cade, LA; his brothers, Ryan Davis (Joyce) of Fulton, MD and Adrien Davis (Leslie) of Lafayette, LA; his god-father, Jonathan Robertson of Lithonia, GA; his god-mother, Jacqueline Coleman-Riser of Lafayette, LA; his god-sister Janece Riser-Francis and his god-brother Charlie Riser; other relatives include aunts, uncles, niece, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends who will miss him but will always hold him close in heart and mind. “For me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”
