Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 6, 2021, at a 1:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Lafayette for Gertie Narcisse, 90, who passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at her residence in Carencro surrounded by her family.

Interment will be in St. Martin de Porres Catholic Cemetery in Scott.

Reverend Augustine Wall, SVD, Pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Lafayette, will officiate the funeral services.

Survivors include one brother, Ernest Narcisse and his wife, Dolores; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vallage Narcisse and the former Mary Thibeaux; and three brothers, Dallas Joseph Narcisse and his wife, Mary, Oran Narcisse, Sr. and his wife, Rita Mae, and Nelson Narcisse, Sr. and his wife, Vorhena.

She worked as a Seamstress for many years making tailored suits. Her dedication to the Catholic Church was impeccable. She was a lifelong parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and a member of the Ladies of Auxiliary.

She loved to cook and bake and was known for her famous pecan cake and okra gumbo that everyone loved. While she never had biological children of her own, she loved and nurtured many of her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. Her loving, peaceful and nearly angelic nature will be missed by many.

Pallbearers will be Oran Narcisse Jr., Sammy Francis, Ernest Martin, Brandt Cormier, Blake Benjamin and Rodney Benjamin.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Ernest Narcisse, David Narcisse, Jude Narcisse, Danny Narcisse and Nelson Narcisse Jr.

A Rosary will be prayed on Monday at 11:00 AM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.

A heartfelt appreciation is extended by the Narcisse family to her close family members who were also her caretakers for many years, her great nieces Nakia Batiste, Robin Batiste, and her nieces Debbie Benjamin and the late Veronica Batiste, for their immense care and compassion during the end of Aunt Gertie’s life.
