June 14, 1901 - February 1, 1970
John Herny Elder, 68, of 617 Pelham St., died Sunday in a local hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Bernice, La., June 14, 1901, and was the son of Charlie and Armanda Elder, Sr. He was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mattie Elder, El Dorado; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie McCree and Mrs. Minnie Frost, both of San Diego, Calif.; four brothers, Willie Elder, El Dorado, Charlie Elder, Jr., and Vance Elder, both of Bernice, and Nathaniel Elder, Dallas, Tex. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the New Bethel Church with the Rev. A. D. Coffey officiating. Burial will follow in New Hopewell Cemetery under the direction of Andrews Funeral Home. (El Dorado Times - February 5, 1970)
