He enlisted on September 30, 1861, at Camp Moore, Louisiana. He reenlisted on May 23, 1862, at Edwards Depot, Mississippi. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War on July 4, 1863, after Vicksburg, Mississippi was captured. He was paroled at Vicksburg. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War on May 26, 1865, after Confederate forces surrendered in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was paroled in Natchitoches, Louisiana, on June 14, 1865.
