He enlisted May 14, 1862 in Many, Louisiana, and was assigned to Company E, 11th Battalion Louisiana Infantry. On November 3, 1863, the Consolidated Crescent Regiment Louisiana Infantry was formed by consolidating the Crescent Regiment Louisiana Infantry, the 16th Battalion Louisiana Infantry (also known as the Confederate Guards Response Battalion) and the 11th Battalion Louisiana Infantry.
