The 1st Battery Trans-Mississippi Cavalry consisted of Arkansas and Louisiana Cavalry. William Maines served as a Courier. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War after the Confederate States Army surrendered at New Orleans, Louisiana on May 26, 1865. He was paroled at Natchitoches, Louisiana June 6, 1865.
