On August 13, 1862, he enlisted into the Partisan Rangers at Monroe, Louisiana. His name later appeared on Roll as a Prisoner of War when the army surrendered in New Orleans, Louisiana, on May 26, 1865. He was paroled in Alexandria, Louisiana, on June 26, 1865.
