Track and Field News Athlete of the Year Award in 1971.
Set or Tied 110m Hurdle World Record five times
Won the 110m Hurdle event at the 1971 Pan-American Game
Won the Gold Medal in the 110-meter hurdles event at the 1972 Summer Olympics Munich Germany.

Milburn died from inhaling a solution of liquid sodium chlorate used in the bleaching process of making paper. He was found in a rail car full of the bleach solution at the Georgia Pacific plant in East Baton Rouge Parish.
