Funeral services for Leon Pete Baker, 99, of Calhoun, LA will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, January 10, 2014 in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe. Rev. Richard Cockburn and Rev. Wayne Ray will officiate. Private burial will follow at Douglas Cemetery, Choudrant, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.Mr. Baker was born March 22, 1914 in Choudrant, LA and passed away January 7, 2014 in West Monroe. He was a lifetime member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Calhoun and was a master gardener. Mr. Baker was superintendent of the Louisiana Experimental Station in Calhoun. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Deborah Rinehart Baker; his wife Nezzie Baker; daughter, Debbie Marler; grandson, Scott Thrower; 7 brothers and 2 sisters.Mr. Baker is survived by his daughter; Joyce B. Thrower and husband Bob Thrower, Sr.; grandchildren; Bob Thrower, Jr. and wife Michelle, Daryl Thrower, and Terri Olson and husband Todd; great-grandchildren; Alex, Chase, Russell, Brayden Thrower and Staci Ryan; son-in-law, Jim Marler and sister-in-law, Kathleen Baker.A special thanks to Arbor House for their care and spoiling Pete.Visitation will be held Friday, January 10, 2014 from 12:00 noon until service time at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.
