He enlisted on April 30, 1862 in Rapides Parish, Louisiana. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners Of War after his capture at Vicksburg, Mississippi on July 14, 1863. His name later appeared on a list of 27th Regiment Louisiana Volunteers paroled at Vicksburg on April 1, 1864. He was listed as a Prisoner Of War on May 26, 1865 when his unit surrendered in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was paroled at Natchitoches, Louisiana on June 10, 1865.
