April 23, 1845 - May 5, 1925
He was born in Maringo County, Alabama. In 1861, he moved to Louisiana with his father, Godfrey Thomas, and soon after, joined the Confederate Army. He enlisted on January 17, 1862 at Columbia, Louisiana. Records listed him as wounded on November 30, 1864 in the battle at Franklin, Tennessee. On December 2, 1864, a circular amputation of the upper third of his right arm was performed (for a gunshot fracture of the right humerous). The amputation was performed under field conditions.
His name appeared on a list of Prisoners of War captured at Franklin, Tennessee on December 18, 1864. On December 23, 1864, he was admitted to the USA General Hospital at Nashville, Tennessee for amputation of his right arm near the shoulder as a result of wounds received from a canon ball. On January 17, 1865, he was transferred from the military prison at Louisville, Kentucky to Camp Chase, Ohio, arriving on January 20, 1865. On February 25, 1865, he was paroled at Camp Chase and transferred to City Point, Virginia for exchange. On March 26, 1865, he was admitted to Way Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi and furloughed.
