CYNTHIA JOAN PERDUE
As Emerson wrote, "The only way to have a friend is to be one", and that's the way Cynthia Perdue lived her life. Cynthia Joan Perdue, 66 years old, died Sunday, September 16, 2018 at her home in Monroe, LA following a valiant fight with cancer. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of friends and supporters carried her through an almost 3-year fight against this horrendous disease.
Cynthia was born on August 22, 1952 in Monroe, Louisiana to Joe Perdue and JoAnn "Jodie" Anderson Perdue. She was the older sister to her twin brothers, Joe and Jay.
Known for her ease in conversation, Cynthia never met a stranger. She possessed a contagious smile, sparkling eyes and an entertaining and witty sense of humor. Throughout her life she maintained a charismatic personality that won the trust and hearts of many.
After graduating from Neville High School, Cynthia went on to receive her B.A. in Journalism with a Radio/TV emphasis from Northeast Louisiana University (now ULM), which paved her path to a varied career.
She began her broadcasting career in radio news working for KLIC Radio in Monroe and later moved to a News Reporter position at a radio station in Jackson, MS. She moved back to Louisiana to report at WGSO in New Orleans in 1981. From 1982 to 1988, she was a news reporter and later news director of KPEL/KTDY radio in Lafayette, LA. During her broadcasting career, Cynthia garnered over 20 Louisiana Associated Press Broadcasters Awards. She also served on the board of that organization, serving as the President from 1985 to 1986.
The city of Lafayette's Utilities System hired Cynthia away from broadcasting so she could manage its marketing, customer and media relations from 1988 to 1992.
Then in 1992 she moved back to Monroe where she worked for two years developing a recycling plan for the cities of Monroe, West Monroe and Ouachita Parish.
She then formed Cynthia Perdue International, a project development and marketing firm, which continued through 2016 and led her to travel the world leading and contributing to a variety of projects. While doing so, she continued to contribute locally and throughout Louisiana.
In 1994-1995, Cynthia managed marketing and special events for the Lafayette Downtown Development Authority, which led her to become the director of community development, Main Street Manager, and Director of Tourism for the city of Opelousas.
In 2004 she moved back home to Northeast Louisiana to head up the West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce. Then in 2007, she came back to the broadcasting field as the General Manager of KEDM Public Radio.
In 2016, Cynthia took a position as the North Delta Regional Planning and Development District’s Northeast Louisiana Highway Safety Partnership Coordinator. She retired in March of 2018.
Cynthia showed her care for family and a multitude of friends through her delicious cooking and entertaining at gatherings. She also made one of a kind handcrafted Mardi Gras masks. Cynthia loved to go to estate sales, dance, collect and read cookbooks, play with her fur babies, and sew.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and JoAnn Perdue; her grandparents, Lloyd Dude Anderson and Ollie Marie Camp Anderson of Monroe, LA, and her brother, Joe Perdue of Downsville, LA. She is survived by her brother, Jay (Connie) Perdue of Ruston, LA; nephew, Jason Perdue; niece, Harley Dawn Fast; her fur babies, Sugar, Spike, and Tabitha and her caregivers and friends Susan Allain and Debra Martin.
