Funeral services for Joe P Daniel, Jr will be at 10:00 AM Monday, November 7, 2016 in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe. Reverend Francis Hooten will officiate. Interment will follow at Hasley Cemetery. Joe was born July 9, 1923 in West Monroe, Louisiana and he entered the gates of heaven on November 3, 2016. Joe was one of the last survivors of World War II having served in the Navy and Marines as a Corpsman. After the War, he moved to Boston, Massachusetts where he graduated from the School of Nursing at Boston University. He later received his Master of Science of Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He became one of the very first male nurse practitioners in the United States. Joe retired in 1986 from the VA Hospital System after 30 years of service. During his years after retirement, Joe loved to exercise faithfully at the Wellness Center in West Monroe; and used it as his social center. He enjoyed reading, writing, traveling and cooking. Even during his years of retirement, he never ceased taking care of others. He was never too busy to take a friend to a doctor appointment or help them with their medical care. Joe is survived by his wife Marilyn Pipes Daniel, son Joe P Daniel, III; daughter Evelyn McGuire; step-sons Brian Vaughn and wife Deanna and Andy Vaughan and wife Julie; grandchildren Jacklyn and husband Jason Hearne, Hunter and wife Lauren Vaughan, Samantha Vaughn, Bailey Vaughan, Casey Vaughn, Ally Vaughan, Nathan Vaughn and Joshua Vaughn; two great grandchildren, and four special nieces, Joyce Henry, Evelyn Maher, Linda Tarkington and Charlotte Mears. Pallbearers will be Hunter Vaughan, Bailey Vaughan, Casey Vaughn, Charles Bartley, Steve West and Dr F P Cobb. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Laughlin, Ted Holmes, Harold Davis, Ray Hendrix, Jimmy Clay, and Stuart Hill. Joe was an active member of McGuire Methodist Church in West Monroe, Louisiana. Any memorials may be made to McGuire Methodist Church or PAWS of NELA. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Sunday November 6, 2016 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe.
