Marguerite Janet Pittman Smith died on January 16, 2018 in Austin Texas at the age of 92.

She was born March 3, 1925 to Lela and James Pittman in Vivian Louisiana. Soon after graduating high school in 1942, she married her high school sweetheart, Noel W. McVay. In the midst of WWII he joined the Army Air Force, and died on a bombing mission over the North Sea on Valentine's Day, 1945. Marguerite was left a young widow at age 20, with a year old baby, Angela.

Marguerite married Merriman F. (Frank) Smith, Jr. in 1947. They had one son, Merriman F. Smith III (Skip). Marguerite and Frank were married for 59 years. Frank Smith died in July, 2006.

Marguerite moved to Brookdale, Westlake Hills, in Austin Texas in August 2009, to be near her son.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sisters Wardie Strauss and Mavis Pittenger, and brother Grady Pittman. She is survived by her daughter Angela Gelber and her husband Steven, her son Skip Smith and his wife Connie Temple, grandson Joseph Randall, and his wife Yumi, granddaughter Amy Randall, and her husband Mathew Reed, great grandsons Blake Randall and Zeiler Randall-Reed, great granddaughter Zaria Randall-Reed, and sister Mary Dorothy Pourteau.

Graveside services will be held in Vivian Cemetery at 3:00 PM on January 23, 2018. Gorsulowsky Funeral Home in Vivian is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Marguerite's name to the American Heart Association, or the charity of your choice.
