LEONARD'S OBITUARY
The Battle is over! The Victory is Won! Our sweet loving husband, father and Papa, Leonard Ray Briery is in heaven with his Savior. Leonard, 62, met Jesus Sunday, September 21, 2014. Since being diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer last November, Leonard has lived his life to the very fullest. He is survived by his wife of 38 years Suzie Briery; daughter Shelli Briery Murphy and husband J T Murphy and their son Landry; son Eddie Briery and wife Ashley Briery and their children Gracee and Ziggy; Sisters and Brothers-in-love; Penny and Curtis Viscardis, James Bass, Junior; David and Linda Bass, Sara Bass Smith and his cousin, who he called his sister, Pam Byargeon, along with aunts and uncles, Merle and Kenneth Reneau, Paula Hancock, Katherine "Bug" Farmer and Jerri Rathbun, and numerous special family members including his cousins, Peggy Hale and Tammy Hancock Weltz who checked on him daily. God has blessed Leonard with so many special friends; he held Rick and Toni McMillan and Pam and Bob Mataya dear to his heart. A time of visitation will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at First Baptist Church Vivian from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. A celebration of Leonard's life will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at First Baptist Church Vivian at 10:00am officiated by his son, Pastor Eddie Briery. Burial will follow at the Vivian Cemetery. Pallbearers are Rick McMillan, Greg Lacaze, Vince Richards, Cale Byargeon, Casey Byargeon and Roy Phelps. Honorary Pallbearers include Kenny Walling, Mark Woollen, Denson DiRosa and Bob Mataya. What a joyous day in heaven as Leonard met his loving parents Edna Louise and Charles Authur Briery again, along with his grandparents Leonard and Bessie Mae Rochelle and Charles Henry and Beatrice Pearl Briery. His father-in-law James Bass Senior and mother-in-law Laverne Heath Bass; brother-in-law Robert Bass and sister-in-law Mary Louise Bass, and his dear sweet Aunts Carolyn Johnson, Juanita Peace, and Doyline McWilliams; and Uncles Marvin Rochelle, Johnny Hancock and Johnny Briery. Leonard, a lifelong resident of Vivian, Louisiana, was a retired (28 years) Caddo Parish School Bus Driver, a barber and co-owner of Shear Blessings Hair Salon with his wife and floral wholesaler with General Wholesale for 16 years. He enjoyed spending time and loving on his family and grandchildren, tending to his garden, cooking and making Pop's Salsa, traveling (especially to see Penny and Curtis in Branson). He loved his pets; Prissy and Valie. He was a hard worker and made sure the floral offering at General wholesale stayed up with the latest trends and designs, up until just a few days ago. The Briery family appreciates all the love and support given over the past year. A special thank you to Mike Vanshoick and the crew at General Wholesale and to the "front staff" Sandy Gregory (who looked after him on those days he really shouldn't have been at work) and Shelia Shaw. And Dr. John Haynes and staff at North Caddo Medical Center and Dr. Anil Veluvolu and staff at Willis Knighton Cancer Center. In honor of Leonard, he asked that memorials be made to First Baptist Church for the Pastor Eddie Briery's continuing education account for completion of Seminary. Any remaining should be given to the First Baptist Church Hands and Feet Ministry. Please dress casual and wear your tropical shirt in honor of Leonard. He loved his Hawaiian shirts and wouldn't want it any other way! "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful".- 2 Timothy 4:7
