He enlisted on December 11, 1861 at Camp Moore, Louisiana and re-enlisted on May 8, 1862 at Corinth, Mississippi. On January 20, 1864, his company re-enlisted for the duration of the war. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War when his unit surrendered at Citronelle, Alabama on May 4, 1865. He was paroled May 13, 1865, at Meridian, Mississippi.
