He enlisted on April 30, 1862, at Simpson County, Mississippi. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners Of War when he was captured at Port Hudson, Louisiana, on July 9, 1863. He was paroled on July 12-13, 1863. On February 15, 1864, while at Mobile, Alabama, he was listed as a deserter from his command; however, on April 17, 1864, he rejoined his command. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War when his unit surrendered at Citronelle, Alabama, on May 4, 1865. He was paroled at Jackson, Mississippi, on May 19, 1865.
