John Paul Spears, age 72, passed away on Monday, June 1 at LSU Bogalusa Medical Center. He was a resident of Bogalusa and a member of Temple Baptist Church. He retired from the City of Bogalusa as a supervisor.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Spears of Bogalusa; two sons, John E. Spears of Youngsville, La. and Laverne Spears of New Iberia; a stepson, John Duncan of Andilusa, Ala.; one brother, Wendell Green Sr. of Bogalusa; two sisters, Lucille Boutwell of Bogalusa and Mary Parker of Wilton, Ark.; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lalanya Fuselier; his parents, Jessie and Aquilla Spears; and sister Margarite Roberts.
Visitation was held at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. and continued on Thursday from 8 a.m. until time for the funeral services in the chapel at 2 p.m. Burial was in Ponemah Cemetery, with Rev. Carl Beech in charge of religious services.
