Revolutionary War
1761 - April 8, 1841

He enlisted on November 4, 1775 and was discharged on December 11, 1778. A letter, dated April 8, 1930, gave a condensed account of Jethro Butler's military service during the Revolutionary War. In part, the letter stated he was born in Bertie County, North Carolina, later moving with his family to South Carolina. In Salem District, South Carolina, he enlisted as a Private, a Spy and a Fifer. The letter indicated he was discharged at the end of his military service commitment on December 6, 1779, after which he enlisted as a Private in the South Carolina Militia until the war's end. His record indicated he was in the battles of Fort Johnson, Fort Moultrie, under the command of General Howe in the expedition to East Florida, was taken prisoner of war and held for three months in a dungeon at St Augustine, and in the battles of Stone Perry, Siege of Savannah, Monk's Corner and Quinby's Bridge. On July 4, 1794, he was commissioned as a Captain of a militia company in the Western Regiment, Charleston District, South Carolina. His company was called the Four Hole Company. His pension of $80 per year was approved and commenced on April 6, 1835. He was living in Russellville, Louisiana at the time.
