Husband of Ida M Harrell Scruggs
BOGALUSA - John Edward "Snowball" Scruggs, 86, a resident of Bogalusa, died yesterday.
Scruggs was a charter member of Westside Emmanuel Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 24, Center Lodge 244 F&AM and was a Shriner and avid sports fan.
He is survived by a son, George Scruggs of Ponchatoula; two grandsons, George Scruggs Jr. of Bogalusa and Neil Scruggs of Metairie; one sister, Evelyn Scruggs King; two nieces, Jacqueline Banister Gaudin and her husband, A.G. Gaudin Jr., and Patricia Banister Talbot and her husband, Evert J. Talbot Jr., all of Baton Rouge; and four nephews, Jerry David Bannister and his wife, Marie, of Ridgecrest, CA, Jimmy
Andrew Galloway and his friend, Velma Jean King, of Prairieville, LA, Cecil Wayne King and his wife, Sharon, of Baton Rouge, and David Curtis King of Port Vincent.
His family is thankful to a special friend, Cliff Mizell, for the care he gave Scruggs during this final lengthy illness.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Mae Harrell Scruggs; his parents, David Webster and Bonnie Munn Scruggs; and two sisters, Helen Scruggs Grimes and Sarah Louise Scruggs Spears.
Visitation will be at the Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home tomorrow from 5:30 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the chapel funeral service at noon. The Revs. Stephen Teal and Billy Galloway will officiate. Burial will be in Ponemah Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Magic City Post No. 24. A Masonic service will be
held tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
