He enlisted March 1, 1862 in Vernon, Louisiana. The Muster Roll dated September 22, 1862, showed he was formerly attached to 9 Regiment Louisiana Infantry. With this unit, he was captured at Huntsville, Alabama on April 11, 1862, and listed as a Prisoner of War at Camp Chase, Ohio. He was transferred to Vicksburg, Mississippi for exchange on August 25, 1862. His name appeared on the Roll of Prisoners of War when his unit was surrendered on May 26, 1865, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was paroled in Monroe, Louisiana on June 17, 1865.
