PRIVATE US Army
3 Infantry Tennessee Militia (Still's Company)
War 1812
March 1793 - August 1878
Arthur McFarland was drafted into 3-months of service January 25, 1814, in Lebanon, Wilson County, Tennessee. He was discharged on May 15, 1814. On May 13, 1871, he filed for a pension, but was rejected on January 11, 1872, citing, "Rejected by reason of the fact that during the late rebellion against the authority of the United States, Claimant exercised the functions of an officer under authority, a (illegible) in hostility to the United States." He appealed the rejection citing he was a Post Master in Athens, Louisiana, at the time of secession and did not take an oath to support the Confederate States of America. After many years of appeals, the United States granted a pension of $8 per month commencing on March 9, 1878. Available records further indicated he served in the Creek Indian War under Major General Andrew Jackson.
