Lucille Schackai Prima passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on Thursday, May 24, 2018 6:15 am at St Joseph Main Hospital, Tampa, FL. Lucille, 88 years old, was born on February 11, 1930 in New Orleans, LA. She was a graduate of Our Lady of the Rosary Elementary School, John McDonough High School, and Dominican College in New Orleans, LA. In 1950 she married Frank J Prima Jr and together they had 4 children: Frank J Prima III (Lynnette deceased), Norman R Prima (Carol), Roslyn F Prima, and Gordon J Prima (Becky). She had 8 grandchildren: Lisa Lotz (deceased), Christian Lotz, Rev. Frank J Prima IV, Michael Prima (deceased), Gretchen Mueller, Courtney Prima, Michele Prima, and Sophia Prima. Lucille dedicated herself to motherhood and being a loving wife. In 2005 Lucille moved to Tampa, FL after Hurricane Katrina destroyed her New Orleans home. In Tampa she served as a member of the St Paul Catholic Church Women’s Club, St Paul SPARES, and the Louisiana Folk Arts. A unique soul, Lucille was truly a southern lady and enjoyed socializing and living life to the fullest. She was an artist; for ten-plus years she made kissing canes for the Italian Marching Club in New Orleans. Because of this, she was named as a folk artist by the Louisiana Folklife Program and one of her kissing canes could be viewed in the state capitol for years. She will be greatly missed by all. Burial will begin with a 10:00 am viewing at St. Dominic Church, 775 Harrison Ave, New Orleans, LA 70124 followed by an 11:00 am Mass celebrated by her grandson Rev. Frank Prima IV. Tomb side Burial Service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124.
