Thelma Julia Levy, 93, a resident of Bogalusa, died Sunday, July 30 in LSU Bogalusa Medical Center. She was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church, the Annunciation Altar Society and Kaycettes.
She was the recipient of the Pontifical Medal from the Pope in 1949 and the Order of St. Louis from Archbishop Alfred Hughes for her work in the church. She ministered to the shut-ins for the church, was the catechetical instructor for many years and Oblate of St. Benedict. She was also a member of the hospital auxiliary.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Louise Levy of Bogalusa; a brother, Henry Nathan (Patricia) Levy Jr. of Buford, Ga.; and numerous nieces and nephews to the fourth generation.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Nathan Levy Sr. and Mamie Innerarity Levy; and her sisters, Lois Levy Daniels, Vera Levy Horton and Helen Nathalie Levy.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Aug. 1 at Poole-Ritche Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m. with the Rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation continued today at Annunciation Catholic Church at 9 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Fr. Lawrence Phelps, OSB, will officiate, with interment following in Ponemah Cemetery.
