William Brunson enlisted in Brunswick, Georgia on October 27, 1861, and was elected to Second Lieutenant on November 14, 1861. On or about June 27, 1862, he was wounded at the battle of Cold Harbor. Beginning in January 1863, the rolls show him as absent (disabled at home) with wounds he received in battle near Richmond, Virginia. On June 2, 1863, he was dropped from the rolls (due to his wounds) and discharged from service.
