Wife of Joseph Levi Kellum Jr
Sydney Rester Kellum, native and former resident of Bogalusa,LA, died Monday, April 9, 2007 at Bradford Terrace Nursing Home, Starke, Florida, at the age of 75.
Mrs. Kellum and her beloved husband of 42 years, Joseph L. Kellum, Jr., lived most of their married life in Los Angeles, CA, where she retired from Transamerica Insurance Comapny. Sydney returned to Bogalusa, a widow, in 1993 and lived in the house formerly owned by her inlaws, Dr. and Mrs. Joseph L. Kellum, Sr. Crippled by polio as a child, she did not let her physical handicap rob her joy for living nor her desire to serve and give to others. Upon her return to Bogalusa, she was a member of Civic League, serving as President in 1997-1998, and was a very active volunteer with Christmas in the Park from its beginning, having wrapped all the little silver gift packages which adorned the walkways. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and, with the help of her faithful housekeeper, Dinah Adams, each room of her house held a superbly decorated tree, each with its own special kind of ornaments and theme. With child-like delight she welcomed all who would come visit and view the trees during this special season.
She is survived by one daughter, Deborah Massie of Melrose, Florisa; one sister, Patsy Johnson of Starkville, MS; two grandsons, Jace Levi and Colby Lee; and three great-grandchildren, Jade Marie, Kurtis Levi, and Katie Marie, all of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph L. Kellum, Jr.,her parents, Leonard and Harriet Virginia Spiers Rester; one infant son, Joseph L. Kellum, III; and one grandson, Kurt Stuart.
Graveside services will be held in Ponemah Cemetery on Monday, April 16, 2007 at 12::00 noon, Rev. Bob Adams of First Baptist Church, Bogalusa, LA will officiate.
