Edith Myre Haik, 82, passed away at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010 in Baton Rouge, after a 15-year struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born Dec. 25, 1927 to Peter and Delvina Myre in Great Falls, Mont., she had 12 brothers and sisters. While serving as a hostess at a USO function in Great Falls, she met the love of her life, Saba T. Haik, who was stationed there near the end of World War II. They were married in New Orleans and later settled in Bogalusa, where they raised their three children: Tommy (deceased), Susan and Freda. Edith was a member of the Annunciation Catholic Church, Rosary Club and Happy Homemaker's Club. She lived in Bogalusa 50 years before moving to Baton Rouge shortly before the death of her husband. Edith was a tirelessly loving, unselfish and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by daughters Susan Haik (Anthony) Marino of Baton Rouge and Freda Haik (Terry) Quinn of Bogalusa; two granddaughters, Marisa and Christy Marino of Baton Rouge and two grandsons, Kelley and Casey Quinn of Bogalusa; sisters Margorie Hill, Shirley Scott, Darlene Myre and Florence George of Great Falls, and Norene Moore of Golden, Colo.; brothers Jim and Dewane Myre, bothEdith Myre Haik, 82, passed away at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010 in Baton Rouge, after a 15-year struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Saba T. Haik, and son, Tommy Haik of Bogalusa; parents, Peter and Delvina Myre; brothers, Lloyd, John and Emil Myre of Great Falls; sisters, Lucille McLain of Lompoc, Calif. and Alice Waters of Tallahassee, Fla.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 19 at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Annunciation Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Patrick Collum. Burial will follow at Ponemah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to St. Joseph Hospice, 10615 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70809 or Alzheimer's Association, 3003 Old Forge Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70808.
