Enlisted September 20, 1862 in Dale County, Alabama. He was admitted to 2 Division Alabama Hospital, Richmond, Virginia on June 6, 1863, reason unknown. He was captured September 22, 1864, at Fisher's Hill, Virginia. As a prisoner of war, he was transferred from Point Lookout, Maryland to Harper's Ferry, arriving on October 20, 1864. He was exchanged on October 30, 1864, and later promoted to 4 Corporal on December 2, 1864. The National Archives, Publication M311, Roll 0107
