FRANKLINTON - Dr. Herbert Allen "Bo" Sisson Jr., age 82, a resident of Franklinton, died at 3:45 p.m. Friday, March 16 in University Hospital at Jackson, Miss. He was a retired educator, a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and a member of Homer Magee Post of American Legion.

A 1943 graduate of Bonita High School, he was drafted into the army where he served two years. He saw action in the Philippine invasion and was wounded on the Island of Leyete. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Infantry Combat Badge, Philippine Liberation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Asiatic Ribbon.

He received his B.S. degree from Louisiana State University in 1950, his Master's Degree in 1957 and his Ph.D. from Walden University in 1977. He was teacher and coach at Mer Rouge High School for 15 years and moved to Franklinton in 1967. A vocational agriculture teacher and supervisor, he retired from Washington Parish School Board. He served as principal at Bowling Green High School, and later became principal at Central Private in Baton Rouge in LA. He had a lifelong love of teaching and his students.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, he served in various administrative positions in the United Methodist Church, including chairman of the board, charge lay Leader, and Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of the Ruritan Club, Lion's Club and the Washington Parish Fair Association.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marjorie Loyd Sisson of Franklinton; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sandra Sisson of Brandon, Miss., Bruce and Susan Sisson of Trenton, Ga.; a daughter and son-in-law, Lilah and Emile Mercante Jr. of Baton Rouge; a brother, D.W. Sisson of Mobile, Ala.; five sisters, Betty Sue Bryant, Frances Ruth Falkenberry, Janie Mae Lowery, all of Bastrop, La., Alice Faye Buffington of Sterlington, La. and Patsy Jo Warren of Ponchatoula; and six grandchildren, Molly Sisson, Jeremy Sisson, Roy Sisson, Danielle Sisson, Joshua Mercante and Nicholas Mercante.

Visitation was held at Crain Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, March 18. Visitation continued after 9 a.m. Monday, March 19 at Centenary United Methodist Church until time for the funeral service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Steve Porter officiated, with burial following in the Morris Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers were members of Homer Magee Post American Legion and the Men's Sunday School Class at Centenary United Methodist Church. Pallbearers were former students.
