FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA - Adele "Pete" Reese LaMarca, 88, a native of Franklinton, LA, died last Monday of pneumonia in Fairfax County.
Born in Franklinton Aug. 23, 1914 to the late Permella Welch Reese and James Jasper Reese, she attended Franklinton schools, and upon the death of her parents in 1930, she moved with her siblings into the home of her brother and his wife, Oddies and Camille Reese in Hammond. While there she completed high school and later married and moved to Independence, LA, her husband's hometown. The couple lived in Independence until 1963, when they moved to Arabi, LA. In 1998 she moved to Burke, VA, near Washington, D.C., to live with her son and daughter-in-law. She was the last survivor of the Reeses' 12 children and their spouses.
She was a gumbo cook-off winner and a virtually invincible Scrabble player, but her greatest skill was manifest as a compassionate counselor, and she was always first in line to help others in need. She was loved by all, and will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews, who fondly called her, "Aunt Pete".
Survivors include a son, Joseph Anthony LaMarca and his wife, June Britton LaMarca.
She was preceded in death in 1974 by her husband, Anthony John "Tony" LaMarca.
Interment will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Morris Cemetery in Franklinton. She had requested that upon her death no one send flowers or make donations, but instead do something in her honor such as something extra for his or her own health or for an elderly person. Crain Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
