FRANKLINTON -- Michael Stephenson Bell, 37, a resident of Baton Rouge, died of a heart attack at his home on July 7.
Bell was a 1985 graduate of Franklinton High School and received his BA degree from LSU, where he was a member of the sculling team, in 1989. He received his Master's degree from LSU in 1991 and was in the process of completing his PHD degree in Linguistics at the school in Baton Rouge.

Bell was employed in Washington D.C. from 1991 through 1993 as Assistant Director of University and Colleges Library at the National Library.
He returned to Louisiana to teach linguistics in LSU's Language Department from 1993 until 1995 when he joined the staff of Governor Mike Foster as Legislative Analyst/Grant Writer through 2001.
In 2002, Bell transferred to the Department of Elections as Director of Registrars and served with the Louisiana Election Commissioner Suzie Haik-Terrell until 2004 when he formed his own legislative consulting company, Vox Politicae, The Voice of Politics, in Baton Rouge.
Bell was a musician, an avid reader, a marathon runner and cyclist and a member of Centenary Methodist Church in Franklinton. He traveled throughout Europe and Canada while studying and working toward his degrees.
He is survived by his parents, John William III and Kay Bell of Franklinton; a brother, Bill Bell; a sister-in-law and nephew, Anita and Jay Bell of Clarendon, Ark; a maternal grandmother, Ruth Stephenson Bailey of Columbia, MS; a paternal grandfather, J.W. Bell Jr and great aunt, Maxine Pierce Bennett, both of Franklinton; an uncle and aunt, Richard and Tommie Bell of Byhalia, MS and a special friend, Renee Roberts of Baton Rouge.
He was preceded in death by a maternal grandfather, F.A. Stephenson of Columbus, MS; a paternal grandmother, Lynette Pierce Bell of Pass Christian, MS and a great uncle, Adolph Bennett of Franklinton.
Visitation will take place at Crain Funeral Home after 10 a.m. today until the funeral services at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Dr. Gene Richards, Rev. Lyndell Bullard and Rev. Luther Stanford will officiate.
Graveside services will follow at the Morris Cemetery in Franklinton.
Pallbearers are Scott Hobbs, Brian Wiggins, Tommy Britt, Rene Zeringue, Fred Schumate and Todd Gianfala.
