Joined US Army January 6, 1941 and was a member of Battery C, 105th Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion of the National Guard during World War II. He saw service in Algeria, French Morocco, Tunisia and Italy. He received an Honorable Discharge on July 20, 1945.

Upon his return to Bogalusa, he wasted no time. Within three weeks, he became employed with South Central Bell in Bogalusa, where he worked for 39 years. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, both those in which he could participate and those he could watch. Mostly he was a devoted American who loved his country and family. He was Past Master of Center Lodge No. 244, F&AM, and a member for 44 years.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Marie Hunt McGehee of Bogalusa; sons John Edward McGehee, Thomas Alan McGehee, James "Mack" (Karla) McGehee and Paul (Kelli) McGehee; grandchildren, Chantelle LaFrance of New Orleans, Jennifer McGehee of Denham Springs, MaKayla Newman, Blake McGehee, Katelyn McGehee, Hayleigh McGehee and Lindsey McGehee, all of Bogalusa; a sister, Martha Johnston of Picayune; and two brothers, Robert (Doris) McGehee and Jimmy (Rossie) McGehee both of Bogalusa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Zeke and Velma McGehee; and a brother, Jerry McGehee.
