James Nathan Harp was the 2nd son of Thomas Marion Harp and Prudence Masoner Harp. He was born in Rhea County in the part that is now Meigs County on the Hiwassee River in East Tennessee.
James married Elizabeth Humphrey in Morehouse Parish on September 16, 1854. He died on the Bonne Idee property from the effects of a kick by an outlaw mule.
