Mrs. Viola Pettis, 70, resident of Spearsville, La., died in a Shreveport, La., hospital Sunday after a long illness. Survivors include two sons, Cecil Pettis of Spearsville, and Allen Pettis of Corpus Christi, Tex.; a daughter, Mrs. Lester Smith of Spearsville; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Jackson of El Dorado, Mrs. J. W. Sterling and Mrs. W. E. Hines, both of Bernice, La.; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church, north of Spearsville, with the Rev. Walter Bird officiating. Interment was in Brantley Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Bernice. The body will lie in state at the home in Spearsville until funeral time.
