JEWEL SCOTT TAGEANT, AGE 83

And a resident of Franklinton died early Friday March 14, 2014 at her home. She was a native of Natchez, MS and graduated from Washington High School in 1948 before attending Mississippi College. She received a Master’s Degree from Southeastern Louisiana University and also from Nova University. Jewel and her family moved to Franklinton in the late 1960s where she later became the director of Head Start-Early Childhood Development Program before retiring with 20 years of service. She always had a special place in her heart for the children she worked with and cared deeply for the rights of all young people.
Jewel was a member of First Baptist Church of Franklinton where she was active in the Winsome Sunday School class, the WMU, Senior Singers and Merry Hearts group. She was a member of the American Legion-Women’s Auxiliary and the Waverly Club. Jewel enjoyed playing bridge and loved attending Franklinton High School Demon Baseball games and followed the team through many years. She loved watching her grandchildren play for the Demons and in all their other activities. Jewel was forever a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

3 Daughters and a Son in law: Janice and David Westfaul of Pascagoula, MS, Theresa Tageant of Hammond, Cookie Ruffino of Ponchatoula
3 Sons and Daughters in law: Breaux and Sandy Tageant of Poplarville, MS, Tim and Pam Tageant of Mandeville, Jeff and Toni Tageant of Franklinton
10 Grandchildren: Robert Tageant, Robin Tageant, Heather Tageant, Tyler Westfaul, Katie Scott Westfaul, Blake Ruffino, Evan Tageant, Clay Tageant, Connor Tageant, Hayden Tageant
1 Great-grandson: Brogen Blitch
Sister: Katherine Scott of Franklinton
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Joseph Tageant, her parents Eugene Dudley Scott and Henrietta Rushing Scott, and a sister Emma Gene Libby.
Visitation will be at First Baptist Church of Franklinton Monday March 17th from 1 pm until 3 pm. A funeral service will be held in the church at 3 pm Monday with Rev. Paul Watts and Rev. Dale Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Ellis Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to Franklinton Head Start or the Acts 1:8 Missions Fund of First Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be her 8 Grandsons and her great-grandson as an honorary pallbearer.
