NELDA MAURENE STEVENS, AGE 88

And a resident of Lafayette passed to heaven at 2:35 pm Monday November 24, 2014 at Lafayette General Hospital. She was the only daughter of Leonard Haynes and Annie Harnesburger Haynes, born August 21, 1926 in Lincoln County, Georgia but was a longtime resident of Franklinton, LA, where she attended First Baptist Church. Nelda graduated as a registered nurse from Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans and worked in her profession for 58 years. She was active in the Red Cross and always said she “loved her people”, meaning her patients.

Survived by:
Daughter and Son in law: Deborah Stevens Carrier and Billy Joe Carrier of Breaux Bridge
Granddaughter and Spouse: Tracy Carrier Henry and Jeff Henry of Carencro
Grandson and Spouse: Billy Joe Carrier, Jr. and Holly Hassey Carrier of Charlotte, NC
Great-grandson: Matthew Joseph Henry of Carencro
She was preceded in death by her husband Spurgeon P. Stevens and her parents.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home in Franklinton, LA Saturday November 29th from 10 am until 2 pm. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dale Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Ellis Cemetery.
