Ray Pettitt, 87, and a resident of Franklinton, died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at Riverside Medical Center. He was owner of Pettitt Firestone for many years and later of Franklinton Appliance Store. He served on the board of directors of First Finance Co. He was a past president of Franklinton Chamber of Commerce and Franklinton Lions Club. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II and a past commander of American Legion Homer Magee Post 113. He was a deacon emeritus of First Baptist Church and also served several terms as chairman of deacons. He was a member and teacher of Friendship Sunday School Class and a longtime director of Men's Brotherhood. He was a member of Spring Creek Lodge and Franklinton Lodge 101, and a charter member of Washington Parish Hospital District No. 1, Riverside Medical Center. Survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; two sisters-in-law, Aline K. Smith and Velma K. Knith; and a special friend, Nelda Stevens. Survivors reside in Franklinton. Visitation at Crain Funeral Home, Franklinton, from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, with a Masonic service at 2:15 p.m. Funeral service at First Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Tuesday, with Dr. Jerry Barlow and Dr. Jim Banes officiating. Burial in Ellis Cemetery. Pallbearers will be deacons of First Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers are Homer Magee Post American legionnaires, other deacons and members of the Friendship Sunday School Class, and Larry Magee, Ricky Magee and J.L. Miller.

Died 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 1993, at Northshore Regional Medical Center, Slidell. She was 76, a native and resident of Franklinton. She was a retired teacher with Washington Parish Schools, with 35 years of service. Visiting at Crain Funeral Home, Franklinton, 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Religious services at First Baptist Church, Franklinton, at 2 p.m. Wednesday, conducted by Dr. Jerry Barlow and Dr. Joe Baugh. Interment in Ellis Cemetery . Survived by husband, Ray Pettitt, Franklinton; four sisters, Velma C. Knight, Willie K. Crain, Mrs. Jake (Valine) Blackwell and Aline K. Smith, all of Franklinton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, W.E. "Bill" Knight Sr. and Mima Letchworth Knight; and five brothers, Ralton D. Knight, J. Meadie Knight, W.E. "Bill" Knight Jr., Daniel Leroy Knight and J.L. Knight. After retiring from teaching she was active in both state and Washington Parish Retired Teacher's Associations, having served as president of the local chapter.She was a member of the local chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and Franklinton First Baptist Church, where she was active in Zuma Magee Sunday School class and WMU Night Circle. She was a Past Worthy Matron of Noble Queen Chapter No. 45, Order of the Eastern Star, was active in the OES Past Matrons and Past Patrons Organization, and was actively involved with Homer Magee Post American Legion Auxiliary and Washington Parish Fair Association. She and her husband operated the Ray PettittFirestone Store in Franklinton. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations be made to Franklinton First Baptist Church Building Fund.
