MILLER, HERD JULIUS

Beloved husband, father and community leader in Franklinton, he passed away on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at his residence after a courageous battle with paralysis and cancer. He was born on June 5, 1925, in Springfield, to Bosa and Grace Smith Miller. He was a resident of Franklinton for 53 years. He graduated from LSU in 1947 where he was a member of the L Club, having lettered in football and basketball. He was a member of ODK and the Block and Bridal Club. He moved to Franklinton in 1947 as an assistant county agent and in 1950, established Washington Parish Tractor Co. Later in 1959, he was named a Ford automobile dealer and formed Miller Ford Co. He was past president of the Louisiana Holstein Association, Louisiana Animal Breeders Co-op, Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce. He served on the board of directors of the First State Bank and Trust Co in Franklinton and served for many years as chairman of the Rodeo Committee for Washington Parish Fair Association. He served on a committee that was instrumental in establishing a milk manufacturing plant in the Franklinton area. He was a charter member of the Franklinton Country Club and Long Range Skeet Club. He was a member of Franklinton First Baptist Church, Ben Morgan Sunday School class and Franklinton Masonic Lodge No. 101. He is survived by his wife, Pam Autin Miller, Franklinton; a son, Dale Miller, Baton Rouge; five daughters, Kathy Miller Bourgeois, Thibodaux, Joan Miller Landry, Denham Springs, Pamela Miller, Richmond, Va., Cheryl Miller Gossen, Kingwood, Texas, and Laura Miller Dupre, San Antonio, Texas; eight grandchildren, John Miller, Anne Miller, Jean-Paul Bourgeois, Rebecca and Matthew Landry, Desi, Andrew and Neal Gossen; and two sistgers, Melna Willie, Livingston, and Bertha Lee Ryan, Pascagoula, Miss.; and three brothers, Morris Miller, Jimmie Miller and Valmon Miller, all of Livingston. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, David Dale Miller Jr.; three brothers, Webb, Lansing and Charles Miller; and a sister, Doris Miller

Visitation at Franklinton First Bapist Church from 9 a.m. Wednesday until religious services at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Karl Tingle officiating. A eulogy will be given by Kenneth Bailey on belhalf of his father, Dr. James G. Bailey. Burial in Ellis Cemetery . Crain Funeral Home, Franklinton, in charge of arrangements. Pearl (Pam) Autin Miller

Was raised in Houma, LA and lived in Franklinton, LA for 63 years. She died on November 5th at the age of 84 due to injuries sustained from a tragic accident. Survivors include one son, Dale Miller, Baton Rouge, and 5 daughters, Kathy Bourgeois and husband, Lloyd, Thibodaux ; Joan Landry and husband Roy, Denham Springs; Pamela Miller, Franklinton; Cheryl Gossen and husband Allen, Kingwood, TX and Laura Miller-Dupree, San Antonio, TX. Sister, Millie Cleckler, Houma, 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Herd J. Miller and grandson, David Dale Miller Jr., Father, John Fabiano; mother, Augustine Pizani Autin and her husband, Gibson J. Autin, brothers, Gibson Autin, Jr., Arnold Autin, Dr. Buford Autin, Loyd Autin and Joseph C. Autin. Pam graduated from LSU with a BS degree in Microbiology. She was also a LSU cheerleader and active in Phi Mu Sorority. As a resident of Franklinton she was a passionate contributor to Holy Family Catholic Church, the Altar & Rosary Society and a Eucharistic Minister. She participated in every parish and community project for her church when asked or needed. She was a long time member of the Franklinton Woman's Club, Washington Parish Republican Women's Club and the Monday Bridge Club. She was a firm believer in education and while raising her children she frequently volunteered as a substitute teacher with Franklinton Elementary School and the Little White House school for special needs children. Visitation will be Thursday, November 8th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Crain Funeral Home, 1109 Bene Street, Franklinton and Friday, November 9th at 9:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1318 Bickham St., Franklinton. Entombment will be at Ellis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to Holy Family Catholic Church Building Fund.
