VERNA BENNETT GIBBS, AGE 99

And a resident of Franklinton died early Tuesday morning March 10, 2015 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home. She was born in Bogalusa on December 21, 1915 and was the oldest surviving member of First Baptist Church of Franklinton where she taught G.A.s many years ago. Earlier in life, she was a beautician and while she and her husband were stationed in the military she fixed the hair of actress Gene Tierny while she too was stationed there. Mrs. Verna enjoyed gardening, cooking and crocheting. She loved to read and liked playing the Bingo games during her time in the nursing home. She had a saying of “my mission in life has been doing for others”
Survived by:
Daughter in law: Juaan Gibbs of Katy, TX
2 Grandsons and Spouses: Michael Cullen Gibbs and Nancy Gibbs, Joshua Evan Gibbs and Amy Gibbs
3 Great-grandchildren: Evan James Gibbs, Michael Ira Gibbs, Clara Ruth Gibbs Sister: Dot Smith of Hattiesburg
Also numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ira Daunton Gibbs, Jr., her son Ira D. Gibbs, III, 2 sisters Juanita Sumrall, Norma Roseberry, and 4 brothers Maurice, Harlon, Arnold and Frank Bennett.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Sunday March 15th from 12 pm until 2 pm. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Dale Parker and Bro. Ben Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Ellis Cemetery.
