FOLSOM -Lt. Col. Ollie Howard Gatlin, age 77, died Monday in Folsom.
He was a native of Franklinton. He was retired after 26 years of service in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was also retired vice-president of plant engineering
at Avondale Shipyards. He was a member of the Franklinton Lodge #101 F&AM and the Centenary United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Verna B. Gatlin; four children, Ana Maria Gatlin Hoyle and her husband, William, Andre Gatlin Skain and her husband Robbie, Melissa Gatlin, and Karl A. Gatlin; his grandchildren, Phaedra Skains Kowis and her husband, Joe D. Kowis, Domineque Skains Westfall and her husband Eric, Derek Skains and his wife, Patty, Jon Paul LeBlanc, Carla Hoyle
Julia and her husband, Glenn, and Terry Hoyle and fianc‚' Shelby Ragland; his great grandchildren, Jared, Kayla, and Lindsay Kowis, Mackenzie and Carter Skains, Cameron, Reed, and Jenna Westfall, Brianna LeBlanc, and Alexis Julia;
one sister, Emily Gatlin Magee; and two nieces, Sheralyn Smith and her husband, Richard, and Bridgett Magee.
Visitation is scheduled today at Crain Funeral Home from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. with Masonic Rites at 7 p.m. and will continue tomorrow after 9 a.m.
The funeral service will be tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Interment will follow in Ellis Cemetery with full military graveside rites.
