DUNAWAY, LUTHER L.

Owner and operator of Gravel Supplies Inc. in Franklinton, he died at 4 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, in Franklinton. He was 78. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Visiting at Crain Funeral Home chapel, Franklinton, 10 a.m. until religious services at 2 p.m. Wednesday, conducted by the Rev. Rick Wood and the Rev. Karl Tingle.

Burial in Ellis Cemetery . Survived by wife, Effie Dunaway, Franklinton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia D. and Mark Fullmer, New Orleans, Deborah D. and John Dutton, Baton Rouge, and Tanda D. and R.L. Schilling, Mount Hermon; a brother, Davis Dunaway, Columbia, Miss.; and two grandsons, Blandon Lee Creel and John Evans Dutton II. He was a member of Franklinton First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to Hospice of St. Tammany.

Effie Dillon Dunaway, a homemaker and a resident of Franklinton, died early Saturday morning, Sept. 2, at East Jefferson General Hospital in New Orleans. She was 85, born Jan. 22, 1921, to Shell Eugene Dillon Sr. and Dillie Burch Dillon in the Star Hill Community of Washington Parish. "Miss Effie" graduated from Franklinton High School. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and gardener whose lawn and grounds were a source of great pride and joy to her and of beauty to the community. She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia and Mark Fullmer of New Orleans, Tanda and Ronnie "Goat" Schilling of Mount Hermon, and Deborah Dutton of Baton Rouge; two grandsons, Blandon Lee Creel and John Evans "Jed" Dutton II, both of Baton Rouge; a former son-in-law, John Evans Dutton of Denham Springs; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lois and Walter Abadie of Baton Rouge; devoted niece, Sherrie Smith Rich and husband Edward of Jonesboro; devoted nephew, Michael Tham and wife Susan of Baton Rouge; and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 56 years, Luther Lee "Luke" Dunaway; sisters, Essie Lea Dillon Smith, Eva Estelle Dillon Tham and Amy Dillon Baudoin; and brother, Shell Eugene "S.E." Dillon Jr. The funeral service will be Monday, Sept. 4, at 11 a.m. at Crain Funeral Home in Franklinton, conducted by Brother Tony Hicks, with interment in Ellis Cemetery . Visitation at the funeral home was on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation continues Monday from 9 a.m. until the funeral service.
