Bickham, Chessie Mae Richardson

A resident of Franklinton, she died at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2005, at Riverside Medical Center. She was 95, born March 17, 1910, one of 11 children of Sarah Wadsworth Richardson and Hardy Chess Richardson, former sheriff and state representative. She graduated from Franklinton High School in 1928 and business school in Jackson, Miss. She was the first female deputy sheriff in the state and a longtime chief deputy assessor of Washington Parish. She was a lifelong member of Centenary United Methodist Church. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dorten Clyde Jr. and Sharron Brittain Bickham of Franklinton; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Virginia and Carl Bradow of Richmond, Texas; sister, Freda Richardson Story of Ozark, Ark.; six grandchildren, Carolyn Christine Bradow, Carl Wade Bradow Jr., Shana Flynn, Jeffrey Todd Bickham, Stephanie Lynn Bradow and Heather Leigh Bickham; and five great-grandchildren, Kyle Bradow, Jarred Bradow, Shelby Flynn, Khale Flynn and Aaron Bradow. Visitation at Crain Funeral Home, Franklinton, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 18. Visitation at Centenary United Methodist Church on Thursday, May 19, from 9 a.m. until funeral service at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Lyndle Bullard and the Rev. Thomas Babington officiating. Burial in the Ellis Cemetery.
