AVIATION ORDNANCEMAN SECOND CLASS US Navy
December 6, 1934 - November 27, 1964
Howard Gene Brantley, 29, of Spearsville, La., was one of the 12 U. S. Navy personnel aboard the Navy anti-submarine patrol plane that crashed into a mountain peak on the Alaskan Bering Sea coastline Friday. Mr. Brantly was among the crew which took off from the Kodiak Naval Station Friday morning on a routine ice patrol mission. The aircraft was reported flying through fog at 800 feet when it slammed into the mountain. Mr. Brantley had served in the Navy for the last 10 years. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Varner Brantley, Spearsville, were notified of the death by the commanding officer of the Whidby Island Naval Air Station at Oak Harbor, Washington. The body will arrive from Washington later this week. Funeral arrangements will be under direction of Pratt Funeral Home. (The El Dorado Times - November 30, 1964)
