Robert E Lee Bass, son of Joseph Jackson and Cora (Ragland) Bass, was born near Harrisville, Mississippi, November 27, 1894. He died March 7, 1937, in the Veterans Hospital, Alexandria, Louisiana, and was buried at Monroe, Louisiana.

Robert E. Lee Bass was a veteran of World War I. He enlisted Aug 21, 1916, at Jackson, Mississippi, for service in the United States Army and trained at Fort Hancock, New York. He was in the following campaigns and battles: Artois Sector July 23 to August 18, 1918; St. Mihiel September 12 to 16, 1918; Meuse Argonne September 26 to November 7, 1918 -- all with Second Company Coast Artillery Corps; he left the United States May 26, 1918 and returned June 3, 1919; and was honorably discharged Jne 23, 1919, at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. During his service, he had the following promotions: Gunner First Class, April 28, 1917; Sergeant, December 15, 1918.

Robert E. Lee Bass and Minnie Elizabeth Pierce were married December 3, 1921, at West Monroe, Louisiana; they had the following issue:
1. Cora O'rilla Bass
2. Annie Vee Estelle Bass
3. Robert E. Lee Bass, Jr.
