Funeral services for Tom Grisham "Skippy" Smith, age 80, of Oak Grove, Louisiana will be 11:00AM, Monday, February 15, 2016 at Cox Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Ninemire officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Grove City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00PM - 7:00PM and Sunday from 2:00PM - 5:00PM at Cox Funeral Home.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Estus Smith and Bettie Emma Akin Smith; sister, Estus Smith; brother, Steve D. Smith; brother, Jack M. Smith; sister, Lela Smith; sister, Doris Vining; sister, Hilda "Tookie" Hankins; sister, Marjorie "Skeeter" Lewis.
Skippy was a lifelong resident of Oak Grove. He graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1954. He tried out for the St. Louis Cardinal baseball team. He joined the United States Army and served as SP4 with Company C. 720th Military Police at Ft. Richardson in the Alaskan Territory and Ft. Polk, Louisiana. He started his surveying career with Messinger & Associates in Bastrop and then with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development for 26 years. He loved the outdoors. He loved being around his family and was adored by his grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Reba Speakman and Emily Brown for all of your care and support.
Skippy is survived by his wife, Frances Hargon Smith of Oak Grove, Louisiana; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie Smith Falcon and Ricky Falcon of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; grandson, Thomas Grisham Falcon of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; granddaughter, Madeline Elizabeth Falcon of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; brother, John Wesley Smith of Oak Grove, Louisiana; sister, Jo Ann Hankins of Lake Providence, Louisiana; numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Russell Bracey, Johnny Smith, Danny Smith, David Smith, Tommy Hankins, Billy Ray Hopkins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Junior Manning, Joe Thornhill, Dustin Percie, Lewis Naron.
