BENTON, LA - Visitation for Merlene Byrge will be held from 5-7pm Sunday June 26 at Boone's Funeral Home, 2156 Airline Drive, Bossier City. Graveside memorial lead by Terry Slack will held Monday morning 10:00 at Rose Neath Cemetery.
Mrs. Byrge passed away June 24, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Elk City Oklahoma on June 17, 1939. Mrs. Byrge worked for the Bossier Chamber of Commerce and later retired from the Shreveport Tourist and Convention Bureau. She was a very creative and talented person enjoying painting, drawing and writing. Mrs. Byrge was known for her compassion and love for animals and continued to rescue strays for most of her life.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Jim Byrge; two children, Janie Byrge Boydstun, son in law Mark Boydstun; Mike Byrge and Toni Byrge daughter in law; six grandchildren, Melanie and Matthew Boydstun, Grant and Kirk Little, Janie Lynn and Jenni Beth Byrge. A twin sister Erlene Pennington of Plano Texas, brother Wayne Hess and sister in law Wynona Hess. She also will be missed by a multitude of nieces and nephews.
